My Fav New Show Recommendation: Supernatural

Now that I have caught up on all episodes of Vampire Diaries and Grey's Anatomy, I face an all too familiar predicament of what TV show should I take a risk on and attempt to get addicted to. Since I have been on this mild science fiction/fantasy kick I decided to check out the once WB hit now CW smash Supernatural. Now this show is not new and I might be a little late jumping on the band wagon, but there is just way too many shows out there to attempt to follow them all with any regularity. The show which premiered in 2005 relates the story of two brothers who are hunters out to stop some gruesome supernatural forces. After the unexplained death of their mother when the boys were just babies, their father made it his mission to train the boys to hunt down monsters and eliminate them, in an attempt to track down their mother's killers. The show stars hot brooding sensitive type Jared Padalecki – Gilmore Girls, House of Wax, New York Minute – as Sam Winchester who kills monsters along with his hunky asshole of a brother Dean Winchester, played by Jensen Ackles – Smallville, Days of Our Lives, My Bloody Valentine 3D. The show at this point is like a western classic combined with a horror movie – two studly gentlemen stroll into town, very sexily take on the big bad, and then triumphantly ride out of town.

Supernatural is currently showing their fifth season which apparently is going to tie up the main plot of the storyline. I appreciate that there will be closure at the end of the show, not like my current feelings about LOST where I still do not know what the red button does nor do I really care at this point. The first season for me was incredibly reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer – another incredible show. Each episode presents itself as its own isolated story with only minor hints to the overarching story line. Each episode is a new city, with new minor characters, that will get killed by a supernatural villain, thus facilitating a brand new mystery for the hot brothers to solve. The thing I like about Supernatural is that sometimes the episode is a little frightening and a little gruesome, which is surprising for the WB, but I appreciate that they did not try to water down or attempt to make the occult family friendly. However, after my brief encounter with the supernatural in the ballroom of burlesque practice the show takes on a whole new level of trippiness. Sometimes I find myself writing down notes from the show … ya know … just in cause some zombie invasion bullshit happens.
