Can We Please Go Back to the Glory Days of Women's Figure Skating?

I woke up this morning and there was this AOL headline about how once again Sasha Cohen falters in a crucial competition and instead of winning, walks away with a 4th place prize. Cohen, who really hadn't made a appearance since the 2006 Worlds, has a reputations of not being able to stick it when it matters most and  usually embarrassingly falls. Here is the entire article about Cohen

Reading this article took me down memory lane a little bit. I remember I used to fervently watch Worlds and the Olympics for women's figure skating. I basically thought that in some small way Michelle Kwan ruled the sports universe. Unfortunately like our dear Cohen, Michelle Kwan toward the end of her career became notorious for falling and making crucial mistakes that kept her from winning the gold. Then stupid little dumb haters named Tara Lipinski and Sarah Hughes stole the gold right from underneath. I was convinced for the longest time that there was conspiracy to keep Michelle from ever achieving her goal of gold.

I was obsessed with Michelle Kwan - as were many of my gay friends I later found out - and whenever she took to the ice she had my undivided attention. I even one time went to Champions On Ice for the sole purpose to see Michelle Kwan dance in person. Those were the glory days of figure skating, now with many things in life, I am completely out of the loop and the superstars of yesterday are retired and out of the game. I have no attachment to any of the up-in-coming stars and secretly wish that Michelle will pull some Cher bullshit and announce her farewell tour ... our her comeback tour ... or whatever tour. Let's be honest, figure skating is like gay mens' crack in the sports arena. Glamorous and stylish girls wearing elaborate costumes glide across the ice to some inspirational and up tempo song - usually from a Broadyway Musical - do not even get me started on men's skating. All I have to say is PLEASE MICHELL KWAN COME BACK TO MY LIFE!!!!!!!!
