The Rebirth of Mortal Kombat?

Utility Player and fellow geek enthusiast, Brandon, showed me a real-life short action film entitled "Mortal Kombat: Rebirth". The movie - starring Michael Jai White, Jeri Ryan, and Matt Mullins - showcases a dark and twisted reincarnation of the once popular franchise.

The original movies - though having their frightening moments - had a general campiness. In the first movie, you had such memorable moments as Prince Goro getting punched in the nuts by Johnny Cage and Christopher Lambert's stoic sense of humor as the omniscient Raiden. In the second movie, which in my opinion took the campiness too far, you had to deal with Raiden's midlife crisis, random appearances by characters that made no sense, and an awful CGI dragon as the big bad.

This preview demonstrates the direction the movie should have taken in the first place. The movie promises audiences the inside look at a dark, twisted, and demented underworld of assassins, killers, and psychopaths. Not necessarily martial art fighters that for whatever reason have supernatural abilities and magic.

Aside from this video there is not much news about the possibility about this short preview becoming a full length feature film but there is definitely support behind the movement. According to IMDB, the WB and New Line Cinema are trying to revamp the project but Threshold Entertainment has apparently filed a breach of contract suit against them halting the project - stupid bureaucratic bullshit. WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO SEE JERI RYAN AS SONYA BLADE?!?!?!?!

Check out the preview below and let me know what you think.
