Scream 4: Wes Craven's Latest Comedic Horror Film
Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 2:30PM
After nearly a decade, the Scream franchise has unveiled its latest project with its fourth installment. The movie follows the typical plotline of all the other movies; Sidney Prescott returns to her childhood home of Woodsboro to promote her latest self-help book. Coincidentally, Sidney's presence back at Woodsboro starts a chain of murders that both mimic and contradict the original pattern of murders - shocking. There, Sidney reunites with local celebrity has-been Gale Weathers - played by the still gorgeous and sassy Courtney Cox - as well as the town idiot turned sherrif Dewey Riley - played by David Arquette. Though the movie peaked at moments with its meta-humor of making fun of itself, ultimately the movie lacked the suspense and originality of the first film. Every time there was an opportunity for somebody to be killed ... they usually did. The strange and disturbing part was that nobody really seemed to mind or care about the striking number of deaths - it's amazing that anybody is still alive in that town. Repeatedly, the merry band of teenagers - who were invariably going to be killed at some point, just a matter of the order - received countless calls from the killer on their dead friends' phones and no one seemed alarmed, more annoyed than anything. The police force, consisting of four cops, did little to solve or prevent the deaths of everybody in the town.
There were two practically poignant moments that stood out to me in the movie. One, a cop gets stabbed through his skull and manages to get out of his car, stumble around for a bit - as he is oozing blood - and then delivers a final witty comeback before collapsing on the ground. The other was "ghostface" is about to kill the nerdy/AV kid and he pretends to be gay because he feel that will protect him from the killer ... and that didn't end too well for him.
To be perfectly honest one of the best part of the entire movie was Hayden Panettiere's hair. It was beyond fierce and I feel suites her so much better. Her brassy character in the movie was actually enjoyable to watch. Overall, the movie didn't necessarily provide the closure I was seeking but was entertaining none the less - however, it wasn't worth $9.75. Wait until it comes to Redbox.
One of My All Time Favorite Youtube Videos
Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 12:16PM It's kind of been a slow day today. Had a show last night with THE UTILITY PLAYERS and stepped in to do some improv. I had an absolutely amazing time last night. The audience was incredible and I am always grateful to have the opportunity to perform another day and do another show ... who doesn't enjoy the limelight?
So today I am just taking care of some odd and ends around the house as well as some errands that I have neglected to do - including shipping off my mother's day gift ... which may or may not happen by May 9th ... but if my mother knows anything about me she will not be
surprised or disappointed. And, what better thing to do when you have a scary list of tasks staring you in the face ... look up Youtube videos for hours.
While on my search I came across one of my all time favorite Youtube videos. Contrary to popular belief it wasn't a scene from a musical, a stunning performance from American Idol, or a best-of-Cher-video-montage. Instead, my favorite Youtube video is called "The Best of Brenda" a compilation of scenes of Brenda Meeks' funniest scenes from Scary Movie 1 & 2. Brenda Meeks is played by actress Regina Hall - who is credited for roles in First Sunday, Malibu's Most Wanted, and Love and Basketball. Whenever I watch this video I instantly pee my pants. Regina delivers her lines perfectly with this comedic prowess that instantly makes you break out into laughter. I also have drawn a lot of inspiration from Brenda as a drag queen - her ghetto fabulousness is amazing and hilarious.
I remember watching this video repeatedly back in Wisconsin with my gay male friends - which by the way you have not lived until you have seen a flamboyantly gay man do this entire video. Ahh the memories. Procrastinate and put off an important task for the day and watch the video below - it will brighten your day.
