True Blood Now Truly Sucks

Well ... I was until I loaded the premiere episode of the new season of True Blood. Season Three left fans with a tremendous cliffhanger; Sookie had retreated into fairy world, Bill and Queen Sophie were getting into fisticuffs, Jason became the mayor of pantherville, Russell is at the bottom of cement grave, Sam appears to have shot his estranged brother and everyone's favorite queen Lafayette turns out to be a powerful witch - shocking.

I anxiously awaited how the writers were going tie up all the loose plotlines of the previous season and give it all a wonderful conclusion. I could not have guessed nor anticipated the rather ridiculous path the creators have decided to take with this new season.

***** WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS *****

The episode opens with Sookie in the beautiful and serene fairyland where she runs into her grand daddy - who mysteriously disappeared twenty years ago. Everything is going great until Sookie's spidey sense starts going off and she uses her weird telekenetic/lightening bolt ability to blast the queen of the fairies off of her feet. It is then that the veil is removed to show a desert wasteland and instead of gorgeous fey people we get goblin looking creatures that are harvesting humans .... weird

Sookie returns to the human world and realizes that 12 & 1/2 months have passed. I guess if you have a ridiculous season finale with disparate storylines that you don't know how to resolve, send your main character into an alternate dimension, allow a ridiculous amount to pass, whereby you do not have to explain how things were resolved ... just that they were. Throughout the episode we learn that Bill Compton is the new king of Louisiana - therefore I am to assume that the Queen is dead - although I am not sure how 140 year old vampire managed to slay a vampire who is over a 1,000 years old, but I digress. Lafayette's steamy boyfriend has been trying to get him to accept his witch identity, though Lafayette is not having it. The sheriff is addicted to V, Jason is captured by the were panthers, Tara is now a cage-fighting lesbian, Sam is hanging out with other shifters attempting to control his anger and Hoyt and Jessica are having a rough go at a monogamous relationship because she is a vampire and wants to eat people.

I literally sat there wondering what the hell happened to a show that always seemed a cut above the rest. Now, audiences must spend half the episode watching these ridiculous side plots unfold when let's be honest all we care about is Bill, Eric and Sookie - and to a lesser extent Pam and her witty tactless humor. That's all we ever cared about. I believe that is why the books are so incredibly successful. An entire series of books focusing on Sookie Stackhouse and her sexual exploits with the supernatural world. It was like science fiction erotica with a better plot. I don't care about most of the people in the show and Charlene Harris, author of the series, had the good commonsense to either kill them off or make them appear one or twice over the course of a 400 page novel.

Knowing me, I will probably see the show through to its eventual cancellation. Here are the only reasons why I am sticking with this 4th season of True Blood

1) There are rumours that the 4th season is modeled after one of Harris' book "Dead to the World". If this is true, it will involve Eric loosing his memory and engaging in a lot of gratuitous sex with Sookie ... so YAY

2) I am waiting for Lafayette to say something sassy and then shoot a lightening bolt at somebody ... oh and I want him to hot gay sex with his boyfriend

3) Alcide, the hot muscley werewolf from Season 3 is returning

4) I am waiting for most of the cast to be killed ...

5) Did I mention Eric's ridiculous amounts of gratuitous sex with Sookie?

Ginger's Weekend Picks

It has been both a exceedingly stressful and dramatic week but also incredibly gratifying as well. On Wednesday I went to the Grand Sierra Resort to the "Magic Toyshop" an adapted ballet recital put on by the Nevada Dance Academy. I went to watch a few of the burlesque dancers show a different side of themselves. Instead of nipple pasties, heels, and corsets it was tutus and point shoes. It was a beautiful recital. However I have never been to a recital and therefore was blithely unaware that 10 numbers out of this 39 number productions were full of tiny little tots of children running around the stage and playing pattycake. Of course those were the ones that knew what they were doing, most of them just looked around as if they were going to pee their pants.Don't get me wrong, it was cute and all .... for about five minutes and then I was over it.

Yesterday, the Utility Players had their final big gay comedy show at 5 star. It was by far, one of our best improv shows to date and we had a full and packed audience. I love playing improv. It was an entertainment medium that I never had any real interest in nor did I think I would ever be remotely good at it. Now, i can't imagine my life without it. I think one of the reasons why I love it so much is the members of the troupe. I get to go over to Ian and pretend that he is my lover that I am cheating on Joe with or that Matt is my date at a drive-in. The straight men in our troupe not only accept these realities, they play along with it, and often out-gay me (it doesn't happen often, but every once and a while). Every time I hear some bullshit on the news or some new legislative agenda is introduced that has at the top of the agenda "BLAME THE GAYS", I am reminded of the men in this troupe. Their kindness and acceptance are small glimmers of hope of what reality could be like.

So I am taking off to Tahoe for the day for a little rest and relaxation. Before heading out, I consolidated a bunch of blog entries I had anticipated writing into one. So here is a random hodgepodge of random facts, reviews, and recommendations. Have a beautiful Friday.

My Jam Book for the Week: Rick Riordan "The Red Pyramid" ---- Riordan surpasses expectations and satisfies audiences with his new series focusing on Egyptian mythology. If you were a fan of the Percy Jackson series then this is definitely a book for you.

New Movie I Will Push Small Children Out of the Way to Get a Good Seat For: Toy Story 3 --- this third installment of the magical Pixar series promises to be better than the other two combined. Opening this weekend, this movie has already made an impact and audiences agree that it is a must see for the summer.

Favorite Random Youtube Video of the Week: "Cranbrook Deer" ---- the video is a little disturbing and I did scream a little bit. A momma dear gets all bigigiddy on this poor dog and cat who get way to close to the momma's baby. This proves once and for all why I do not do the whole nature thing.

Favorite Pic of Random Hot Guy Who Will be My Future Husband: Zac Efron in People Magazine ---- People Magazine just released their issue of celebrities with the hottest bodies. All in all a generally pointless issue, it does have glossy photo spreads though of Zac Efron looking like this.

Top Television Show to Watch: Season Three of True Blood --- I mean come on, vampires, werewolves, and gay undertones. How could this not be my jam show?

My Oldie but Goodie Song for the Day: Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston singing "When You Believe". Not only was the movie Prince of Egypt enjoyable but this powerhouse ballad that came from the movie is epic. I had my IPOD on shuffle when this song came up and it reminded me how much I used to love Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey and how amazing they were. Now Whitney is cracked out and down for the count and Mariah is incapable of releasing a track where she sings.  The good ole days.

Have a wonderful Father's Day weekend!!!!

What Makes me Feel Better After Applying for Jobs All Day

Google Imaging Alexander Skarsgard and seeing this picture pop up makes me feel better. I have spent all day biking around the city of Reno looking fo gainful employment. With a few moments of peace before rehearsal tonight, I decided to read the latest installment in the Sookie Stackhouse Series - DEFINITELY DEAD - and started wondering: what is going on with the 3rd season of True Blood?

I have seen advertisements for the show more frequently thus informing me that the premiere is shortly upon us. The first episode of the season premieres June 13th, 9:00pm on HBO. A number of photos, miniepisodes, and trailers have been leaked over the past couple of weeks. The major introductions of this season are going to Werewolves - Alcide is a delicious burly football player of a man - and the King of Mississippi. In the book, the King of Mississippi is supposed to be this flaming queen of a King so I cannot wait to see what they do with his character. Here is a link to some spoilers for the first three episodes of the Season if you are interested.

So after a day of answering grueling questions, it was nice to come home and stare at Alexader Skarsgard and imagine all the beautiful above average strawberry blonde children we would have together. I am thinking of starting a new segment on my blog entitled "Ginger's Future Husbands". An exhaustive list, Alexander ... and of course Zac Efron ... would be at the top of the list.
