I am so excited to be a part of Bruka's production of Vampire Lesbians of Sodom and Psycho Beach Party. Both are incredible plays created the enigmatic and ingenious drag sensation that is Charles Busch.
I remember reading these plays in a Queer Theatre class I took in college. Suddenly I find myself a part of the productions - something I never even dreamed was a possibility. I was so inspired by the productions in class. Busch's mastery of characters and voices is incomparable.
Very much like Zanna Don't!, these shows have an over-the-top campiness that infuses the whole show with this light and whimsical element to it. The premises of the plays are ridiculous, yet the actors' portrayals are authentic and cleverly touch upon such themes as homophobia and sexuality.
Busch draws upon a wealth of pop culture items to complete his shows. Everything from Mommy Dearest, Sunset Boulevard, All About Eve, and Chicago, Busch parodies landmark cinematic classics while paying homage to their relevancy and importance at the same time.
Check out the flier for times and costs of the show. This is definitely not one to miss!!!!
